Green Livelihoods, Climate Justice & Resilience Program (GLCJR)

Dignity Equity Resilience Sustainability

PROGRAM GOAL (IMPACT STATEMENT)

To empower women and youth with sustainable green livelihoods while strengthening climate resilience and advancing climate justice for communities disproportionately affected by climate change and environmental degradation in Uganda.

PROBLEM STATEMENT (WHY THIS PROGRAM EXISTS)

Women and marginalized communities:

  • Bear the greatest burden of climate change impacts
  • Have limited access to decent, green, and resilient livelihoods
  • Are excluded from climate finance, markets, and decision-making
  • Face loss of land, income, and food security due to climate shocks
  • Receive minimal benefits from climate and green economy initiatives

Climate action without justice and livelihoods deepens inequality.

TARGET GROUPS (WHO THE PROGRAM SERVES)

Primary:

  • Rural and peri-urban women
  • Women farmers, youth, and informal workers
  • Climate-affected and resource-dependent communities

Secondary:

  • Women-led cooperatives and enterprises
  • Youth climate innovators and entrepreneurs
  • Community climate leaders

CORE OBJECTIVES (WHAT WE SEEK TO ACHIEVE)

  1. Create sustainable, climate-resilient green livelihoods for women and youth
  2. Strengthen community climate resilience and adaptive capacity
  3. Advance climate justice by addressing structural inequalities in climate action
  4. Improve access to climate finance, markets, and green technologies
  5. Promote women-led, locally driven green economies

PROGRAM PILLARS (INTEGRATED STRUCTURE)

Pillar 1: Green Livelihoods & Enterprise Development

Decent work for a just transition

  • Climate-smart agriculture and agroecology
  • Sustainable forestry, tree growing, and restoration livelihoods

Pillar 2: Economic Empowerment & Financial Inclusion

From survival to economic agency

  • Access to savings, credit, and climate finance
  • Village savings & loan associations (VSLAs)

  • Linking women to green markets and buyers

Pillar 3: Climate Resilience & Adaptation

Building resilience from the ground up

  • Climate-smart farming and water management
  • Ecosystem restoration and nature-based solutions
  • Community adaptation planning
  • Disaster risk reduction and preparedness
  • Indigenous and local knowledge integration

Pillar 4: Climate Justice & Rights

Fairness, equity, and accountability

  • Climate rights awareness and advocacy
  • Gender-responsive climate policies and planning

Pillar 5: Knowledge, Innovation & Local Solutions

Women-led climate solutions
